Newcastle continued their fairytale journey in this year’s Champions League with a 4-1 thrashing of French giants PSG.
Someone has not told Eddie Howe and his men that they’re in the Group Of Death! (Cue the Grim Reaper coming and him walking up to you in his gear).
I say that more in a tongue-in-cheek manner, but for PSG it appeared they got visions of such with World Cup-winning Kylian Mbappe and European champion Gianluigi Donarumma left shell-shocked.
Italian keeper Donarumma shipped four goals in, to send The Magpies into dreamland. French captain Mbappe who won the World Cup at 18, was marked out of the game by Dan Byrne.
That in itself is some turnaround for the former Brighton man. As they have done on so many European nights in the past, The Toon Army were crucial in firing their side to a win.
St James’ Park was fully charged in its atmosphere this evening, which left the French champions shell-shocked.
This defeat for PSG only increases the pressure on new manager Luis Enrique who was appointed over the summer.
The Parisians are second in the group as it stands, but a defeat of this magnitude isn’t something that PSG’s current owners take kindly to.
Group F leaders Newcastle host Borussia Dortmund and PSG welcome seven-time European champions AC Milan.
