Pakistan have been rocked by the news that fast bowler Naseem Shah will miss the World Cup due to a shoulder injury.
Naseem picked up the injury against India in the Asia Cup on 11th September and has not been able to recover in time.
He has been ordered to undergo three months of rest after surgery.
The 20-year-old, who has become a member of the bowling attack for the 1992 World Champions has taken 32 wickets in 14 ODI’s and will be replaced by Hassan Ali.
As gutsy as the recalled Ali is, and the fact that he bowls with a lot of heart, he doesn’t quite have the same skills as Shah.
The Pakistani youngster has developed a very good slower ball and is improving game by game almost in his death over bowling.
That’s not to say that Hassan Ali isn’t completely incapable, it was the 29-year-old who helped Pakistan win the Champions Trophy in 2017.
This is why I mention it, the Warwickshire bowler is capable of taking on responsibility. Hassan Ali’s 91 ODI wickets in just 60 games is also respectable.
Faheem Ashraf who had been playing in the recently concluded Asia Cup can also feel hard done by he is not within a shout of replacing Naseem Shah.
Ashraf does offer something with the bat, which in past tournaments has hurt Pakistan (a lack of fast-bowler all-rounder).
Will Naseem Shah’s absence from this year’s World Cup hamper the Shaheen’s World Cup campaign? Only time will tell.
