Hello, good morning sports fans, I hope you’re well, looking after yourselves and are in good health. Yours truly had been caved in so apologies.
To the issue at hand, let’s talk about Everton football club. Here, sadly is a case of a fallen giant. This generation of football fans, (some of the internet trolls) will mock them for being relegation candidates.
That’s just been for two seasons, both involving Frank Lampard. I am not one to criticise managers, but Frank, just celebrate being Chelsea’s record goal scorer and take back your old T&T pundit gig.
There’s no shame in it, even the great Roy Keane, the man who thinks he is life’s version of sliced bread, dare to step foot in the management dugout anytime soon.
Now Everton have a respectable Premier League manager, as the cool kids say, let him cook. For the more well-spoken amongst you, take the picture in your mind of Sean Dyche in a chef hat and chef gear.
Dyche, who spent the best part of a decade with Burnley, helped them turn into an established Premier League side.
Critics will say, the man doesn’t play Tiki Taka. If you want that, go to the Etihad and watch Pep. The Ginger Mourinho, once he gets his feet under the table, builds sides that are robust and have steel.
With midfield generals Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye patrolling the centre of the park and the guile and craft of Arnaut Danjuma and Dwight McNeil, Everton’s midfield can compete.
Sports fans, clear out the negativity brigade. Last time I checked titles are won by playing more than five games.
Getting relegated after five games, is not possible, anywhere in Europe, so turn the drama down a notch.
Everton have been competitive in most matches this year, yes Aston Villa was a bad day at the office and they couldn’t land a glove on Arsenal. But again, it’s a 38-game season.
Sean Dyche is closing in on a season at Goodison Park, and there’s no better way to mark the occasion.
It’s been confirmed that a US investment firm 777 Partners are in talks to buy Fahad Moshiri’s 94% stake in the club.
For this deal to be finalised, a fit and proper person’s test will need to be passed, but allegedly Everton’s prospective new owners have given The Toffee a loan.
This is a great way to demonstrate the commitment they have to being the new guardians of the football club.
Back to my initial point, something Everton are a small club. Let me have you know, that The Blues have won nine domestic titles.
Only Manchester United (20), Liverpool (19) and Arsenal (12) have more than Everton. O and all-conquering Manchester City, they too have nine, but this is only after dominating this recent era.
For The Toffees to get back to a trophy-laden era, something which the club became accustomed to in the 70s/80s, players like Jordan Pickford, Abdoulaye Dacoure and Beto will be crucial.
The recent why I mention this trio is in Pickford they have an elite goalkeeper, he’s England’s number one.
In Malian Abdolaye Dacoure, they have a player who always seems to produce when it matters most. The last day of the season comes to mind.
Finally in Beto, a signing from Udinese, they have a man who can be the focal point for the side. In my own humble opinion as good of a signing as he is, Danjuma is better suited out wide.
The 25-year-old Portuguese star Beto, all be it early doors has shown some promise and already looks to be building an understanding with Dacoure.
With the majority of clubs, that are expected to be in the bottom half under new ownership, Everton were at risk of getting cut a drift but upstepped 777 Partners to alleviate those fears (subject to clearance).
I don’t say this from a point of bias either. With a squad that has the ability of The Blues, they will be avoiding the drop this year too.
I think they should be towards the midtable. Do you agree? Let me know in the comments.
