Britain’s Daniel Dubois fell short in his quest to become world champion, but the fight didn’t escape controversy.

Dubois who was seen as the WBA mandatory challenger, due to it being mandatory was going to get his shot at boxing’s biggest belts, which cruelly the 25-year-old fell short in.

Daniel Dubois gave a good account of himself, but Usyk being the champion that he is, was able to find a way.

The Ukrainian was able to floor the young Brit in the ninth round. Beaten, but not embarrassed. To have got this far, for most would be a consoling factor, but not for Dubois.

It’s the circumstances of the defeat that would hurt. Despite being the underdog, he gave all he could.

The sour note of this fight would be the controversy of the sixth round, where Daniel Dubois landed a shot on world champion Usyk.

What was controversial was that it was called a low blow, but strangely a point was not docked on the Daniel Dubois scorecard.

The length of time amount the Ukrainian had was also controversial, to say the least.

This refereeing controversy, adds to a list of many refereeing blunders of recent years. Would this have made Dubois champion, if the referee called the decision correctly at the time?

It’s hard to say, but the fight would have fared differently. This fight also proves, if you want to make a fight happen it will happen.
