Hello, good afternoon sports fans, I hope you’re well, in good health and having a lovely day. Sports fans, we need to talk, to be more specific we need to talk about Manchester City.

The Cityzens who have been Premier League winners for the last three seasons running are arguably at a crossroads.

I say this because there’s only so much they can improve.
Players such as David Silva, Ilkay Gundoguan and even Aymerick Laporte have left or been sold, which has meant replacements for all players have been needed.

Earlier in his tenure Manchester City manager needed to sign players to solve problems, these days, he needs to sign players to replace the ones that feel it’s time to leave.

Algerian winger Riyadh Mahrez was also in that camp. The 32-year-old was sold to Al-Ahli for a deal in the region of £30 million.

Thus began the task of replacing the former Leicester City player. Unlike Manchester City, the process took a while and saw players such as Lucas Pacqueta and Kaoru Mitoma linked.

Surprisingly neither were signed and City were making frantic efforts to sign a wide player. The option of settling with Cole Palmer out wide never seemed to cross the Spaniard Guardiola’s mind.

Pep was adamant a signing was needed and it was confirmed that Rennes winger Jeremy Doku had been signed in a £55.5 million deal.

At just 21, the Belgian is no doubt one for the future, but the early signs are Manchester have pulled off a real coupe to get their man.

In Belgium, they can’t talk about him highly enough.

Chelsea, Tottenham and West Ham were all said to be interested in the former Rennes man. Signing Doku is also beneficial for Phil Foden, who as a result of this signing can now play in the number 10 role.

Against Newcastle he excelled in the role and with Guardiola’s tutelage, there’s no reason to suggest why he can’t continue to flourish.
