Liverpool have agreed an £111 million deal, which is a British transfer record fee for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

The Ecuadorian who was the subject to interest from Arsenal during the January transfer window, ended up staying as The Gunners weren’t able to agree a fee Caicedo.

This led to Ecuadorian international Caicedo stating publicly on his social media account, he wanted to leave the Amex Stadium.

Despite his pleas, Moises Caicedo stayed at Brighton. Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi appeared to suggest that both Alexis Mac Allister and Caicedo would be sold but then backed tracked.

As good of a player, as he is, it wasn’t too long ago that Moises Caicedo was offered to Manchester United for £5 million.

Liverpool, who since Klopp’s arrival have managed to get value for their buck in the market, have of late paid inflated fees for players.

Darwen Nunez was one and now Caicedo will be another if The Reds can complete the deal. Long-time admirers Chelsea might match the bid, but we don’t think they will.

Especially with the news that The Blues have entered the race to sign Romelu Lavia, a long-term Liverpool target.

Signing Lavia would fall into their strategy of signing young players, with the potential later to generate a good transfer fee at the end of it.
The nineteen-time League title winners, were in the market for Jude Bellingham, earlier in this window.

Liverpool however, pulled out of the race due to wanting to sign a few players for £85 million, rather than one big marquee signing.

Moises Caicedo is a good player yes and would give this new-look midfield some steel, but there is a but, The Reds could have brought in a couple of players with the amount they’re paying for Caicedo.

The football community says to be wary when you do a deal with Daniel Levy, but Levy is nothing compared to Tony Bloom.

This man is a tough negotiator. Caicedo Brighton said won’t leave unless they get £100, what’s happened they’re going to get £111 million.

Marc Cucurella went for £60 million. My own opinion is this is why Manchester City didn’t follow up on their reported interest in Karou Mitoma.

Just when we thought this transfer window was starting to quieten down, then this happens.
