Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will be potentially for most of the season with an ACL injury.

The 31-year-old Belgian won the Champions League of course when they defeated Liverpool in the final some two seasons ago.

Courtois has been outstanding since joining the Spanish giants in 2018, after having a stand-off with former club Chelsea.

Domestically, the former Genk goalkeeper has won it all and has rightly been hailed as one of the best goalkeepers of his generation.

This injury blow to Real’s number one is a hammer blow. Los Blancos have been carefully rebuilding the team from defence to midfield and even attack.

With how injury free the Belgian has been, not only is this injury setback a surprise for the club and player, but a real setback for manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Now the priority is going to be to get a replacement. Good goalkeepers are hard to come by and even harder to come by at a good price.

Real might have got an early season present, in the former of player who made his breakthrough with arch-rivals Atletico.

David De Gea, the former Manchester United stopper left Old Trafford after 12 seasons. Los Blancos did want to sign De Gea, but a dodgy fax machine put an end to that.

Now that the former Spanish international is unattached, there’s no need to worry about that dodgy fax machine!

When DDG left Man United, critics said his stoke was at an all-time low. This isn’t fully true. David De Gea has been and will always be a good shot-stopper, which could make him suitable for Spanish football.

La Liga doesn’t seem to have teams that operate with Sweeper Keepers and also a goalkeeper that is good in the air and commands his penalty box.

Put it this way, there are much worse goalkeepers than David De Gea. The Spaniard comes with knowledge of the league and with a wealth of experience.

The only thing he doesn’t have is a Champions League medal, this is where Real Madrid comes in?
