After a season that had proved frustrating so far, West Ham have agreed deals for Harry Maguire from Manchester United and Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse.

It had been slow going in the transfer market for The Hammers after they sold their captain Declan Rice to Arsenal.

But in the past week, West Ham have agreed a deal for Edson Alvarez, Ward-Prowse and Maguire.

The 28-year-old James Ward-Prowse who had played the first game of the Championship season for Southampton last week, moves to The London Stadium as one of the players to fill the void left by Rice’s departure.

Mexican Alvarez is another. Former Ajax midfielder Alvarez’s
arrival could help free up Thomas Souceck, who by his standards had a tough season.

The fee for James Ward-Prowse is believed to be in the region of £30 million, similar to the amount The Iron have paid for former Manchester United captain Maguire.

Mexico midfielder Alvarez is (at the time of writing) very close to joining the club for a fee of £35 million.

With the midfield and defence seeing reinforcements, a new striker would come in handy, especially with Gianluca Scamacca joining Atalanta in a £21.5 million deal.

West Ham did seem set to sign Manchester City youngster Carlos Borges, but the leading goal scorer in Premier League 2, ended up joining Dutch giants Ajax.

Fellow Ajax forward Mohammed Kudus, who had been strongly linked with Brighton could be an option, but with the Ghanaian in high demand, The Hammers will need to act quickly.

West Ham need incomings rather than outgoings. The next challenge for David Moyes is to keep hold of Lucas Pacqueta.

The Hammers’ summer in the transfer market, looks to be far from over.
