After one of their worst seasons since Jurgen Klopp came to the club, Liverpool needed change. The Reds under Klopp, became one of the best sides not just in Europe, but in world football too.

The Anfield club won a Club World Cup, an FA Cup, a Carabao Cup, a UEFA Super Cup and of course the Premier League.

Liverpool did this with a very formidable midfield, but if last season was to go by, this same formidable midfield needed to be modified.

Under former Borussia Dortmund manager Klopp, The Reds’ midfield was athletic and dynamic. With Tiago Alcantara, the Spaniard added some gloss to the central midfield position.

Former Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfielder Tiago had the technical ability, accustomed to Spanish players in the position, which helped Liverpool a lot.

Last year, however, all the good things about Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool midfield, weren’t evident.

Although the 19-time Premier League champions recovered to finish fifth, the six-time Champions League winners, will not be in this year’s competition.

For a team that won the tournament in 2019, this is not ideal at all. Liverpool is a side, that is renowned for its Champions League nights.

Factoring all of this in, manager Jurgen Klopp, promised there will be a revamp of the midfield. If Klopp gets the right signings in, then we think Liverpool will back right up there as the nearest challenger to Manchester City.

To be fair, the German has been a man of his word too.

The Reds have signed Argentine World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister from Premier League rivals Brighton, for a bargain £35 million.

In addition to signing Mac Allister, Liverpool have signed Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig. Szoboszlai, the Hungary international, formerly of RB Salzburg is one of the most highly-rated midfielders in Europe.

As impressive as those two signings were, according to reports Jurgen Klopp will be signing Southampton’s Romelu Lavia, who is a very talented Belgian midfielder, who is formerly of Manchester City.

Lavia, like the other two players who have already signed, are young, full of energy and will bring some toughness to the midfield.

In their prime, this was what Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were famed for.

If Director of Football Jorg Schmadtke can pull this off, then brace yourselves football fans, the Liverpool and Manchester City title tussles could be back!

Admittedly, Jurgen Klopp’s side has had a lot of outgoings, but the signings and the reported signings are promising.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was criticised last season, towards the end of the last campaign looked something towards back to his best, come the end of the season.

With that issue looking like it’s addressed, one would like to think that the bad season that Virgil Van Dijk had was a one-off. The man had a serious knee injury after all.

If they could sign Chelsea’s Levi Colwill, then that would spice up competition for places in the centre-back position.

Up front, has seen a lot of player outgoings too, but this will remain one part of their pitch, where squad wise they’re well stocked.

Adjusting to the losses of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino is hard, but it appears they have enough in the attacking positions.

The Reds have to deal with some big departures, but in Jurgen Klopp, you have one the best managers in world football, who can overcome such challenges.

They have signed good players, players like Stefan Bajčetić, who impressed last season has an extra season under his belt.

This Liverpool team will be a hungry squad to succeed that’s for sure.

So, this is why I think Liverpool will challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title this year, do you agree?
