Premier League champions Manchester City have agreed a fee of £77 million for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gavardiol.

The 21-year-old former Dynamo Zagreb defender who won back-to-back titles for moving to Germany, is seen as one of the best in his position, not just in Europe but world football.

It is expected Gvardiol will fly to England for a medical later this week
The deal looked unlikely to be agreed last week when Leipzig insisted they would not sell for less than €100m (£86m).

Man City’s swiftness in getting negotiations underway and to a conclusion was crucial in helping this deal get over the line.

Gvardiol, who has scored two goals in 21 appearances for his native Croatia is a versatile player. Not only can he play in the centre of defence, but also as a left-back too.

One player who’s future could be affected by Josko Gvardiol’s arrival is Aymeric Laporte’s. The former Bilbao man last season struggled to hold down a regular place in the City side.

The Cityzens have even more options on the left side with Nathan Ake and Rico Lewis operating on that side.

This flexibility could be crucial for Pep Guardiola’s treble winners. Just in case people thought that Manchester City are taking it easy, they’re indeed doing the polar opposite.
