Former Rennes and Borussia Dortmund forward Ousmane Dembele will be leaving current club Barcelona, to join PSG.

This was confirmed by the Spanish side’s manager Xavi. Dembele had been at Barca for six seasons and was linked with Premier League clubs Manchester United and Chelsea in the past.

Those moves didn’t materialise and the 26-year-old French international stayed put in Catalunya.

Spanish champions Barcelona, who signed Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundoguan this summer, were looking for incomings rather than outgoings.

Former player Oriel Romeu was also signed, but this departure must be a bitter pillow to swallow for the Barcelona hierarchy.

During his time at Camp Nou, Dembele lost form and seemed destined to be sold, only for Xavi Hernandez to give the former Rennes man public backing.

That seemed to work as Ousmane Dembele started to produce some impressive form and just maybe showed why Barcelona paid such an eye-watering amount for him.

It seemed inevitable, due to Barca’s financial situation that Dembele was going to move on, but a move to PSG is one which I don’t get.

The French champions, who are the most successful team in Ligue 1, did have the appeal of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

But with Messi having already left and Mbappe all but left, it doesn’t seem to make sense. Only Dembele will know himself, but maybe home is where the heart is.
