Chelsea have agreed a £38.57 million fee with Monaco for defender Axel Diasi. The France international had been linked with Premier League rivals Manchester United in the past.

But it would be Chelsea who would sign the 25-year-old former Reims defender. With Wesley Fofana out injured and potentially Levi Colwill leaving, The Blues needed defensive reinforcements.

Coupled with Fofan’s injury, Benoit Badiashille (who impressed last term), isn’t going to be available at the start of the season, owing to an injury of his own.

The signing of the 25-year-old 6ft3 defender sees Chelsea carrying on their recent trend of signing Monaco centre-backs, as well as players from the French League in general.

Rennes midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu is very close to joining the club for a fee of £23.2 million. Newcastle under Mike Ashley part two this is.

In what’s been a busy window of outgoings, some incomings are now starting to arrive, as manager Mauricio Pochettino looks to shape his squad.
