Premier League runners-up Arsenal continue their summer spending spree with the news they have signed Jurien Timber from Ajax on a long-term deal.

Dutch defender Timber was linked with a reunion with former boss Erik Ten Haag at Manchester United last season, only for then-national boss Louis Van Gaal to talk him out of the move.

The then Ajax defender ended up staying at the Johan Cruyff arena. That lead The Red Devils to go for Timber’s teammate Lisandro Martinez.

Arsenal last year did want to sign the Argentine defender known as The Butcher, but when United firmed up their interest, the World Cup winner moved to Old Trafford.

With the memories of last season’s missed opportunity fresh in their minds, The Gunners and their Director of football Edu, were even more keen to get their man.

Jurien Timber’s fee is £34 million but could rise to £38.5 million. In today’s market that is an absolute bargain!

Especially since the 22-year-old can play as a full-back. With the future of Kieran Tierney uncertain, maybe this is how the Dutch defender breaks into the team initially.

Arsenal signing Timber is an impressive signal of intent. The 22-year-old joins Kai Havertz and Declan Rice as new signings this summer.
