Wimbledon fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas produced a stirring come back to defeat former two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray in five sets.

The Greek player, having seen fourth seed Casper Ruud knocked out by an inspired Liam Broady, would have been weary of the threat of the three-time Grand Slam winner.

Murray’s hips might not be quite what they were, but one thing that has not left him is his battling qualities.

How the Dunblain player would have hoped he could have finished this match yesterday when he was 2-1 up and in the ascendancy.

Wimbledon’s curfew rules, put an end to that. Organisers only allow matches to go up to 11pm, strictly no later.

With this break in play Tsitsipas was able to refresh himself and over come a tough challenge. Murray these days may not be seeded, but classes is permanent and all that spiel.

Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitipas had the raucous home crowd to deal with too.

In the past, I have been quite critical of his temperament, there was no finer example than the bad blooded match last year again Nick Kgyrios.

The Australian isn’t here this year due to injury, so Tsitsipas won’t need to worry about that. For a few years the Greek player has threatened to win a Slam.

With Djokovic, Alcaraz and others on the circuit it’s a tall order to win the title at SW19. All Stefanos Tsitsipas do is focus on the now.

Here on Friday evening, he put up a professional battling display to beat home favourite Andy Murray 7-6,6-7,4-6,7-6, 6-4.

On to the round of 16 we go.
