Arsenal have agreed a £105 million worth deal for West Ham captain Declan Rice. The England international who had been at the Hammers academy since being released by Chelsea, had two years left on his contract.

When Rice hadn’t signed a new deal, it looked more and more likely that the 24-year-old was always going to leave. The Gunners did table two previous bids for the midfielder, but both were rejected.

This latest fee although accepted needs to be ironed out in terms of how it will be paid. The £105 million that Arsenal will pay (£100 million +£5 million in add-ons) is equal to the British transfer record that Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish.

With West Ham manager David Moyes and owner David Sullivan bracing themselves for Declan Rice’s departure, any details holding up the transfer should not be too problematic to clear up.

Rice captained The Hammers last year to the Europa Conference League title, the club’s first trophy in 43 years. Ajax’s Edison Alvarez has been earmarked as a potential replacement as has Everton’s Amadou Onana.

Premier League champions were said to be wanting to sign Declan Rice. When they had a deal which was worth a £90 million package rejected, they pulled out of the deal, paving the way for Arsenal to sign one of their main transfer targets.

What has been an impressive transfer window so far for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, is said to get better as they look to finalise a deal for Dutch defender Jurien Timber.

The last time they went in for an Ajax defender, he ended up in Manchester. Will the same happen here?
