Former Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca has been named as the new boss of Leicester City in a deal which runs till 2026. The 43-year-old joins The Foxes just six days after Man City completed a historic treble by beating Inter Milan in the Champions League final.

He had an unsuccessful 180-day spell as Parma’s manager in 2021, overseeing just four wins from 14 games after they were relegated from Serie A. But it should be also noted Maresca has become a key part of Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff.

The former Parma did with the U23 title with The Blues and has a reputation for encouraging his sides that he’s managed to play football in the right way. Enzo Maresca’s appointment comes with a lot of risk, but the Italian is of course another coach who’s benefited from Pep’s tutelage.

Mikel Arteta, Vincent Kompany and Xavi are other high-profile managers to have benefitted from and learnt Guardiola, all three have won silverware since branching out on their own as managers.

The Leicester City fans who might not know too much about their new manager can take solace from this fact. On the other hand, I argue that the Championship can be more of a difficult league to succeed in than the Premier League.

Mresca has agreed a deal till 2026. Best of luck in your new job Enzo!
