Liverpool’s summer transfers have started with the news that they have signed Alexis Mac Allister for £35 million, plus add-ons on a five-year deal.
The Argentinian World Cup winner joins from Premier League rivals Brighton, whose manager Roberto De Zerbi said that the 24-year-old will be leaving The Amex Stadium this summer. Mac Allister scored 20 goals in 112 appearances for The Seagulls.
Mac Allister joined The Seagulls from Argentinos Juniors in January 2019 and immediately went back to the Buenos Aires club on loan. When he returned, he became a mainstay in the Brighton midfield under Graham Potter and then De Zerbi.
What has been a busy summer for Liverpool in terms of departures, has got off to a good start in terms of arrivals. Alexis Mac Allister is no Jude Bellingham, but he does know the league very well.
Mac Allister won the World Cup title with Argentina, over the winter. After missing the first game of the tournament against Saudi Arabia, the Brighton man played in the next six games, all the way up to the final.
As well all know La Alibceleste would go on to win the title and in part, it was down to the contribution of Alexis Mac Allister, who helped give his side more dynamism in the middle of the park.
The former Brighton man at 24 will give Jurgen Klopp’s side more energy in the middle of the park as well as athleticism too. Argentina international Alexis can play in several positions from a number eight to a number, which could prove crucial for Klopp and his Liverpool side.
That’s one signing complete for Liverpool at a bargain £35 million initial transfer fee, their fans will be hoping it’s the first of many.
