The winners and losers of deadline day

Since its inception in 2008, the final day of the transfer window or deadline day has become a spectacle that arguably has more drama than some actual games.

Thirteen seasons in, and the transfer window has provided a lot of twists and turns, even this current window, a window that has been amongst the back drop of a coronavirus pandemic.

Clubs have felt the pinch of the pandemic and have reported losses of substantial proportions as a result.

Many experts felt that spending would be minimal this window with cost cutting measures needed no doubt .

Having said that however £1 billion still has been spent on players, with signings such as Romelu Lukaku, and Jack Grealish (£97.5 million and £100 million respectively).

Expensive as those players have been to sign, this transfer window has seen some bargains.

David Neres to Leicester for £15 million plus add-ons and the signing of some bloke called Ronaldo for £12.5 million arguably being signings of the summer.

But Edson Edouard or Joachim Anderson to have been bits of brilliant business for Crystal Palace.

The what I call ‘Odemwingie’ moment, a transfer that didn’t go through when they wanted it to go through was the failed transfer of Kylian Mbappe.

The Frenchman who said he wanted to leave PSG, was not able to get his dream move In this transfer window due to the French side and willing to sell their star player despite an eye watering £189 million bid from Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Los Blancos despite the disappointment of missing out Khllian Mbappe Were able to sign his countrymen Eduardo Camavinga.Camavinga Who was linked with a whole host of clubs signed for Real in a £27 million deal on a six year contract.

Barcelona‘s financial mismanagement has been clear for all to see, with the With the frantic efforts to sell Frenchman Antoine Griezman back to Atletico Madrid.

To say one club has won the transfer market is very subjective but one could argue that teams such as Liverpool who have made just the single signing Have been one of the teams clearly that have lost in this market.

As this is a developing story, the team at the Sports Buff will bring you an update as soon as we get it.
