The winners and losers of deadline day

Since its inception in 2008, the final day of the transfer window or deadline day has become a spectacle that arguably has more drama than some actual games.

Thirteen seasons in, and the transfer window has provided a lot of twists and turns, even this current window, a window that has been amongst the back drop of a coronavirus pandemic.

Clubs have felt the pinch of the pandemic and have reported losses of substantial proportions as a result.

Many experts felt that spending would be minimal this window with cost cutting measures needed no doubt .

Having said that however £1 billion still has been spent on players, with signings such as Romelu Lukaku, and Jack Grealish (£97.5 million and £100 million respectively).

Expensive as those players have been to sign, this transfer window has seen some bargains.

David Neres to Leicester for £15 million plus add-ons and the signing of some bloke called Ronaldo for £12.5 million arguably being signings of the summer.

But Edson Edouard or Joachim Anderson to have been bits of brilliant business for Crystal Palace.

The what I call ‘Odemwingie’ moment, a transfer that didn’t go through when they wanted it to go through was the failed transfer of Kylian Mbappe.
