In one of the most competitive and unpredictable leagues of Football, the Championship season began last weekend.
The opening game began on Friday night as George Hirst’s late penalty rescued a point in their 1-1 draw away to Birmingham City.
Late goals became a common theme on Saturday as League One play-off winners, Charlton Athletic, stole the victory in a 1-0 win against Watford thanks to Harvey Knibbs’ 94th minute winner.
Southampton completed a late turn-a-round with goals in the 90th and 96th minute to steal three points from Wrexham and end the game at 2-1.
Hull City managed to maintain a 0-0 draw to Coventry City in Sergej Jakirovic’s first league game for the Tigers.
Millwall began their Championship season with a successful start after a 2-1 triumph away to Norwich City.
Isaac Price’s goal was enough for West Brom to win the game 1-0 against Blackburn Rovers, despite Darnell Furlong being shown a red card in the 95th minute.
Portsmouth claimed three points in their first game of the season with a 1-0 away victory over Oxford United.
Stoke City secured a 3-1 win late into stoppage time against Derby County as Divin Mubama and Sorba Thomas lifted the Potters with triumph.
With a combined nine shots throughout the whole game, Middlesborough secured a 1-0 win against Swansea City after Dael Fry’s goal in the 51st minute.
Queens Park Rangers held Preston North End to a 1-1 draw with Ben Whiteman scoring the first own goal of the Championship season.
Bristol City earned a surprising 4-1 win away to Sheffield United as they took their chances despite having far less shots and possession throughout the match.
Finally, on Sunday, Leicester City won their first league game after relegation from the Premier League, defeating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 due to a late winner from Wout Faes, just 11 minutes after Barry Bannan was sent off.
