He did what others before him couldn’t. Harry Redknapp, Mauricio Pochettino (despite his best efforts), Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Nuno Espírito Santo, to name some, have tried and failed to win a trophy with Tottenham.

Tottenham’s failure to win a trophy and be consistently successful was starting to become a thing of ridicule and merciless mockery. The internet, let’s just say, had a fun day with Spurs’ failings.

Their chairman, Daniel Levy, has overseen football matters from before 2008, when they last won a trophy, to now. Levy was notorious for driving a hard bargain when selling players, but that’s all he seemed good for.
As good a skill as this is, it doesn’t yield trophies. So two seasons ago, after Glasgow Celtic won their latest domestic treble and their manager Ange Postecglou left them to join Tottenham, some, arguably many, were sceptical of the move.

Fast-forward two seasons, and the Australian coach has done what Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte couldn’t. In the case of The Special One, let’s cut him some slack. The man was sacked a few days before their last cup final.

Take a box, Ange, you deserve it.
