After a fine win in the ODIs, Pakistan has lost the T20 series. Feebly without a fight is what comes into mind when describing such a poor set of performances. This is as far as the batting is concerned.
At the time of writing, Pakistan is on the verge of getting whitewashed by Australia, an Australian team that’s depleted due to the India vs. Australia series. Say what you will, but the players in the 11 are still highly skilled.
All were on an experimental team, and Pakistan’s team appeared to have no mugs. But as a cricket fan, the self-destruct button has been difficult to digest. A few days ago, when chasing the men in green, they seemed to be in a good situation, only for them to blow it.
In years past, Pakistan has struggled to find a balance in its batting line-up, and many years later, this is still the case. Mohammed Rizwan is an excellent captain; cricket fans have seen how he has inspired the Multan Sultans.
The new Pakistani skipper can only be as good as what’s given. Give the man some power hitters—a Tayyab Tahir, maybe. I am not necessarily saying an Asif Ali, but someone who can thwack the ball.
Once upon a time, Shahid Afridi would be that man for the 2009 T20 World Cup winners. In this current series, there’s stuff to like with the bowling side rather than the batting side.
But then again, I may be being too harsh. If there’s one time to be short of this player, and that player is during a series of matches rather than a tournament, no?
