Pakistan Gary Kirsten has resigned as coach after six months in the role. Test coach Jason Gillespie will be in charge of the white-ball side for the interim period, starting against his native Australia next week.
In what’s been a turbulent period for the white ball side, which has seen star player Babar Azam quit his role as skipper, Kirsten’s departure is a further low in Pakistan cricket.
When appointed six months ago, it was rightly seen as a massive coup. But sadly, the six months that have prevailed have been difficult going for the South African. It appears to be due to reasons out of his control.
Respected news publication ESPNCricinfo said that Kirsten reportedly has a strained relationship with the PCB over selection issues.
