Football fans in particular need to talk, about one Gasperini. That’s Gian Piero Gasperini the unsung manager of Atalanta, the former Inter Milan manager Gasperini.

With Internazionale, he wasn’t able to make a mark, but down in Bergamo, yours truly is convinced he’s the best thing sliced bread and for a Bearded man like me the Beard Comb.

He’s been manager eight years for Atalanta and what’s impressed me the most is how he’s got players to over-perform almost. Josip Illicic, Luis Muriel, and Duvan Zapata are obvious examples.

Former captain Papu Gomez is the other. In the case of Gomez, he would leave Bergamo and respectfully it can be said he wasn’t the same player when he left. Those players were players of the past, but the 66-year-old is using his man-management skills again.

Forgotten Chelsea player David Zapacosta, Gianluca Scamacca and this year’s Ademola Lookman have been given a new lease of life under the 66-year-old former Juventus youth coach.

To think when he joined the club in 2016, Atalanta were at the lower end of the Serie A table. Since then the club have been regularly involved in European competition, which includes a Champions League quarter-final.

Gianpiero Gasperini, you deserve more than flowers, you deserve roses. Congrats on a wonderful career, now people can appreciate you in the way you deserve.
