Brisbane Heat won their first Big Bash title with a very comprehensive 54-run win against Sydney Sixers, who fell short yet in another Big Bash final. The Heat, who last won the title in 2012, have arguably struggled to a mount challenge since.

This year however, under the initial captaincy of Usman Khawaja and then Colin Munro, topped the BBL table. Despite the impressive run in the group stages, they needed two goes to qualify for today’s final.

The Sydney Sixers, on the other hand, had no such issues. When defending champions Perth Scorchers were dumped out at the semi-final stage, Moises Henriques’ men would have been fancying their chances, but sadly for them yet again, they have fallen short.

Full credit must go to Brisbane though, who seemed like a different side altogether. Jimmy Peirson, who was skipper last season, although giving up the captaincy was crucial behind the stumps in their run to the final and ultimately BBL glory.

Nathan McSweeney was the captain for the final and he masterfully changed his bowlers at the right time and used the bowlers according to the conditions. To put it into context Xavier Bartlett only bowled a single over.

Matthew Kuhuneman, although wicketless impressed in the final, the slow left-armer just went for 16 runs off his four overs. Left-arm paceman Spencer Johnson was arguably the pick of the bowlers with 4-26.
