Former Coventry, Middlesbrough, Blackburn, West Brom and Sunderland manager has agreed to take over at Championship rival club Birmingham City.
The former Boro defender was manager at rivals Sunderland, but a bad run that just saw them win two out of nine games, saw Sunderland get rid of Mowbray.
Arguably that decision was a bit harsh as he did get them into the play-offs last year. That decision has been made and I am sure that Mowbray himself will be eager to get started in his new job.
Birmingham were very keen to hire him. It’s just been six days since Wayne Rooney lost his job. The hiring of Mowbray 60, does see an element of a ‘safe pair of hands’ appointment.
Tony Mowbray’s first game in charge will be against Swansea, who welcome their new manager Luke Williams to their dugout.
Birmingham City and their ambitious owners, couldn’t have done much better than this. The former Sunderland has an impeccable CV and looks to be just the man who can match their loft ambitions.
With Tony Mowbray’s appointment, this sees Birmingham appoint their 13th manager in as many seasons.
No pressure from Tony!
