Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon joined an exclusive list of spinners to have taken 500 wickets in tests after his five wickets in the first test helped Australia crush Pakistan by 360 runs.
Lyon arguably would have got to the milestone earlier, if he wasn’t injured in the second test against England, in the summer.
Nathan Lyon, helped The Bagg Green restrict Pakistan to 271 in the first innings and then a paltry 89, in the second.
For Australia, there have been several positives such as the form of their openers and also their batting on the whole.
The bowlers weren’t too bad either all four front-line bowlers contributed with the ball. Australia do have Mitch Marsh as a fifth-bowler and in the first innings he did get a wicket, but in the second, such was the poor showing of the tourists Pakistan, he wasn’t needed.
As poor as Shaan Masood’s men were with the bat, in particularly the second innings, this day surely belongs to Nathan Lyon.
The 34-year-old Lyon joins Anil Kumble, Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan as the spinners with 500 wickets or more.
As for the next text match between the two sides, that will be at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). If Pakistan didn’t realise it, they should now, they’re in a real battle in this test series!
