Van Dijk, just like Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandez, filled in on many occasions for his side last season, with the club captain being on the bench.

The appointment of VVD is a natural choice. Trent Alexander-Arnold is named as vice-captain.

Both TAA and Van Dijk, had difficult seasons last term, but here’s to hoping the added responsibility can improve their game.
