After politics proved a bit of a sideshow last year, this year’s Wimbledon has been superb! There have been some shocks and matches with high drama, it’s had it all.

This year’s tournament did have a player who went on a fairy tale run in the tournament. Last year Australian Nick Kygrios got to the final only to be outclassed by Novak Djokovic.

Chris Eubanks, the 27-year-old American qualifier, who does tennis commentary, was one of the shining lights this year.

Eubanks beat British number one Cam Norrie as well as Andy Murray’s conqueror Stefanos Tsitipas.

The fifth seed was on the right side of a five-set thriller against Murray but on the wrong side of a five-set thriller against Eubanks.
American Chris Eubanks’ fairy tale run would come to an end against former world number one Daniil Medvedev.

Eubanks was leading 2-1, but Medvedev showed his class and battling qualities to come back and win a classic in five sets, 6-4,1-6,4-6,7-6, 6-1.
It will be back to commentating then for Chris Eubanks who didn’t win on the court, but no doubt won admirers off the court.

Russian Medvedvev now faces Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals in a mouth-watering prospect. The 20-year-old Alcaraz who is the world number one, also won Queen’s.

On current form, he looks to be in with a great chance of winning Wimbledon and making it a double on grass.
With wins over Matteo Berrettini and Holger Rune, Alcaraz has shown he can hold his own on the grass at the highest level.

One thing. Even if Carlos Alcaraz defeats Medvedev, which won’t be easy, defeating Novak who is the defending champion will be more challenging.
The world number two faces Italian Yannick Sinner in the other semi-final. It’s too early to count the chickens yes, but who is saying a Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic final?

I wouldn’t count against it.
